Wheel Throwing II

The next step for those with a basic understanding of the wheel! 

Instructor: JAKE BRUNNER

Fridays 6:00PM-9:00PM 

Eight Weeks Beginning Friday, April 9

Limited to just 6 Students (A few spots still open!) 

This class is designed to advance your existing wheel throwing skills. Each class will explore perfecting different techniques on the wheel, with special attention given to your personal strengths, weaknesses, and desires. The structure of the class will provide a starting point where each student can then follow their own goals, motivations and areas of interest. Very malleable syllabus to accommodate students’ personal interests, desires, and abilities.

Fee includes 2-3 hours per week of optional Open Studio time.

Throwing Functional Objects

Beginning Wheel Throwing

Instructor: ALISSA MITTL

Saturdays 1:30PM-4:30PM 

Eight Weeks Beginning Saturday, April 3

Limited to just 6 Students (SOLD OUT!!) 

In this class, students will learn the basics of throwing on the potter's wheel from one of Taos's best, Alissa Mittl. An emphasis will be placed on centering and effectively forming functional objects on the wheel. By the end of this course students will be proficient in throwing, trimming, and glazing a finished, functional ceramic piece. Group instruction and individual attention will be provided.

Beginners and Refreshers welcome.
Fee includes 2-3 hours per week of optional Open Studio time.

This eight-week class is for adults and young adults (16+) with little or no experience to those seeking a refresher! Taught by resident studio instructor, Jake Brunner, you will undoubtedly have good fun while developing excellent throwing skills. The structure of the class will provide a framework from which each student can set their own goals and work towards achieving them.

Brought back by overwhelming popular demand, this fun class will explore both the basics of wheel throwing and the opportunities for surface design. You will be exposed to a variety of techniques that will include: sgraffito, mishima, wax and paper resist, image transfer, slip trailing, and more. Students will be encouraged to take an in-depth approach to the ceramic surface, to consider how the surface treatment can complement and enhance a thrown form. Intended for those with some basic wheel throwing experience. An interest in drawing or design is also helpful.

Fee includes 2-3 hours per week of optional Open Studio time.

We sold out the Wednesday class and now we just added a Sunday class!

You’ve been asking for it and so here it is with one of the area’s most respected instructors, Lee Akins. This class is designed to explore the many aspects of hand-building with clay for both those new to clay and those more experienced. It includes pinch pots, coil, slab, and more. Lee will make presentations, offer examples, and provide demonstrations. The level of lecture and demonstration is varied according to the experience of the students.

Ages 6-11

This 8-week class for children from ages 6 to 11 will be geared towards exploring some of the various avenues of building with clay with a focus on creativity and FUN! Classes will be project oriented.  We hope to explore many ways of creating with clay including pinch, coil, slab, and surface texture.

All students will have some fun things to take home and a sense of pride and accomplishment!
