This class is the perfect class for all who seek to discover the many possibilities of creating with clay! We'll explore an array of hand-building techniques, and you'll be introduced to wheel throwing, and more! The class, taught by an accomplished ceramicist and instructor, Rebecca Browning, is perfect for those new to clay. Instruction will include learning to coil, pinch, slab-build, and wheel throw. Rebecca will make presentations, offer examples, and provide demonstrations.

So many ceramics students get overwhelmed and stymied when it comes to glazing their work... we have you covered! Join us for this fun and informative class that will give you the understanding, skills, and techniques to glaze your work with confidence! From how to prepare your piece for successful glazing, to what and how to wax, glaze application, cleaning up your drips and whoopsies – we will cover it all. Underglaze, slips, and layering techniques will also be discussed to provide you an array of options when deciding what to use, when to use it, and how to be successful in your glazing adventures. Students are encouraged to come to the first class with bisqueware ready to glaze, but you will also have the opportunity to make some new work in this 4-week intensive class.

In this fun and creative class, you will have the opportunity to explore surface decoration techniques that go well beyond the glazed surface. The carving of designs (Sgraffito), the inlaying of colored slips (Mishima), and the successful use of stencils will all be covered in this 4-week intensive. Students are encouraged to come to the first class with several leather-hard pieces. Get ready to explore these satisfying decorative techniques !

Raku is a low-temperature fast-firing technique that achieves unique metallic and lustrous surfaces by cooling the piece in a smoky atmosphere. We will cover basic and specialty raku techniques including Halo, Slip Resist (or Naked Raku), Copper Mat, Obvara, Horsehair. Smoke Firing techniques will include Saggar and Terra Sigillata. Students will see examples and demonstrations and be able to try the techniques. Some experience in clay is helpful.

This class is designed to introduce students to a wide variety of approaches to creating works of art in clay, using animals as subject matter. Several clay modeling and glazing techniques will be covered in the class. Students will select the animals they wish to portray based on personal preference; perhaps a favorite pet, endangered spcies, or imaginary creature. Students are encouraged to work as simplistically or detailed as they wish. The techniques taught assure successful outcomes for all students regardless of experience. This class has always been a hit with all!
