This class is the perfect class for all who seek to discover the many possibilities of creating with clay! You will explore an array of hand-building techniques, be introduced to wheel throwing, and even have an opportunity to fire Raku! The class is taught by a very accomplished ceramicist, Rebecca Browning, and is perfect for those new to clay. Instruction will include learning to coil, pinch, slab-build, and wheel throw. Rebecca will make presentations, offer examples, and provide demonstrations.
Fee includes two optional Open Studios of 3 hours per week.

Eight Weeks Beginning September 11th thru October 30th
Raku is a low-temperature fast-firing technique that achieves unique metallic and lustrous surfaces by cooling work in a smoky atmosphere. Instructor, Lee Akins, will cover basic and specialty raku techniques including Halo Stain, Slip Resist (or Naked Raku), Copper Matte, Obvara, Horsehair, Saggar, and more. Lee offers wonderful weekly examples, presentations, and demonstrations.
Some experience in clay is required.

This is the perfect class for anyone seeking to learn a host of hand-building techniques taught by one of the best, Lee Akins. Students will explore the many aspects of sculpting and hand-building utilizing slab, coil, and more. Lee also offers a wealth of knowledge in finishing techniques. Weekly presentations and demonstrations. Instruction will be sensitive to your level of experience.

For anyone seeking to get to the next level of wheel throwing, this is your class! We’ll cover topics like handles, spouts, lids, multiples, alterations, and more to help you make a variety of complex pots.
A demo will be given at the beginning of each class and we’ll spend time discussing form, function, and considerations to be made while designing and creating.
Instructor, Leslie Hero, is an accomplished wheel-based potter focusing on the craft of crockery & kitchenware, and believes handmade pots contribute to the tastiest homemade meals. She has taught this class for the TCC for the past year with nothing but accolades. Allow her to demonstrate how to achieve the kind of pots you are envisioning making with your own two hands!

This 8-week class for children from ages 6ish to 11ish will be geared towards exploring some of the various avenues of building with clay with a focus on creativity, success, and great FUN! Our instructor, Ceclia, is an experienced teacher of children who will be attentive and sensitive to your young artist's individual needs. All will have some fun things to take home and a sense of pride and accomplishment!

Just Four Weeks Beginning September 19th thru October 10th
Sgraffito is an ancient surface decoration technique of scratching or carving through a surface to reveal a contrasting color underneath. In this 4 week intensive, Maura Gaven will cover the fundamentals of which tools and techniques to best apply—and then remove—slips and underglazes. Demonstrations of when, where, and how to carve successfully will be supplemented with in-depth advice on each aspect of the sgraffito process including guidance on how to approach design on three dimensional forms.
