This class is the perfect class for all who seek to discover the many possibilities of creating with clay! We'll explore an array of hand-building techniques, and you'll be introduced to wheel throwing, and more! The class, taught by an accomplished ceramicist and TCC artist- in-residence, Sonja Hinrichsen, is perfect for those new to clay. Instruction will include learning to coil, pinch, slab-build, and wheel throw. Sonja will make presentations, offer examples, and provide demonstrations.
Fee includes two optional Open Studios of 3 hours each per week.

In this class, you will make a variety of slab built functional-ware including cups, platters, butter dishes and salt and pepper shakers. Then you'll learn how to transform the surface of your clay works using screenprinting and underglaze! The instructor, Byron Ashley, is an expert in this area and will guide you through the process of creating multi-colored images using various screen-printing techniques such as newsprint transfers and direct printing onto clay slabs. Whether you like to paint, draw or design patterns, this class playfully blends 2D and 3D elements together! All levels of experience welcome.

Byron Ashley brings his many years of experience in clay to the TCC. Byron will be teaching the basics of pinching, coiling, slab building and more sculptural techniques such as solid and hollowing. Learn how to transform the surface of your clay vessels with sprig and press molds, slip trailing and sgraffito! Byron will make examples, provide demonstrations and assist artists of all levels of experience. This is sure to be an extraordinary class!!!

All About Surfaces!

Let's go beyond scratching the SURFACE!
JUST 1 OPENING LEFT, DON'T DELAY!
Over and over again we hear students wish that they knew more about surface techniques. Well now's your opportunity! This class will explore many of the options that you have for both wheel thrown and hand-built pieces. We will cover a variety of techniques that will include: sgraffito, mishima, wax and paper resist, terra sig, image transfer, slip trailing, and more. Students will be encouraged to take an in-depth approach to the ceramic surface, to consider how the surface treatment can complement and enhance their form. Intended for those with some basic clay experience.

This 8-week class for children from ages 6 to 10 will be geared towards teaching them the basics of what you can do with clay through hand-building! The class will be focused on creativity, success, and having great FUN! All students will have some fun things to take home along with a sense of pride and accomplishment!

This 8-week class for children from ages 11 to 14 will be designed to teach them to learn the basics of wheel-throwing. Everything from wedging clay, to centering, to throwing, to trimming! The class will be focused on learning basic skills, confidence with clay, and having great FUN!
