A Life Their Own
Ellen Schechner Johnson
A Life Their Own, is an intimate look into the work of Ellen Schechner Johnson – “winged vessels” and other forms that intrigue the viewer to examine closely. Often drawing from historical references, her work combines the notations of prealphabetic language and the surfaces of frescoes. Archeological in nature, they are things found and repaired – ancient vessels, clay messages, old books, scraps and shards.
Ellen was born in New York City and has been a professional artist for 50 years. Her life in the arts began in her twenties as a fiber artist constructing wall sculptures. During this time, she received degrees in humanities from Northwestern University and New College, followed by an MA in Archetypal Art Therapy at the University of New Mexico. She has exhibited her work extensively working between studios in Dixon, New Mexico and San Miguel, Mexico.
A Life Their Own will be on exhibit at the TCC Gallery from August 8th thru September 19th..
