2024-2025
Taos Ceramics Center Artists-in-Residence
Program

The TCC is very excited to welcome Maura Gaven of Portland, Maine, as the first of our two 2024-25 Artists-in-Residence who will be working, teaching, and pursuing their art at the Taos Ceramics Center through 2024 into the summer of 2025. We look forward to welcoming our second resident, Cecilia McGinnis of Ashville, NC, who will be joining us in October. These are two very talented and joyful ceramic artists who will bring a great deal to our center, community, and to all those that will have the pleasure of meeting and learning from them.

Maura Gaven

Maura is a multidisciplinary artist and art teacher from Portland, Maine. She has studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Burren College of Art, and holds a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from the Glasgow School of Art. Inspired by the philosophies of the Arts and Crafts movement, she combines her classical art education with her interest in folk and decorative arts from around the world. Employing a printmaker's graphic sensibility to her ceramic work, she elevates simple, functional forms with dense, whimsical sgraffito designs. She has taught 2D Design at the Southern Maine Community College since 2019 and has exhibited internationally in the US, UK, and Ireland.

Cecilia McGinnis

Cecilia began working in clay after taking a ceramics course while an undergrad. She had always considered herself to be a creative but had never been exposed to the potter’s wheel before this class. Cecilia was immediately obsessed with the medium and poured herself into learning various techniques focused in wheel-throwing. After graduating from Furman University in May 2023, Cecilia moved to Asheville, NC to be a summer resident at Odyssey ClayWorks. She has continued working at the studio as an assistant, which has allowed her to further her knowledge of ceramic processes and develop her teaching skills. Cecilia is hopeful of pursuing an MFA so that she can instruct at the higher educational level and continue sharing her passion for ceramics with others.
